HINDRANCES TO SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND PROSPERITY

Posted by: Evans Olang on: December 6, 2005

Good morning,

God delights in the spiritual growth and total prosperity of all his children (3 John 2). That includes you. He, however, require us to take the lead and have a passion and higher degree of devotion, commitment, and total dependence on Him and His Word, for our spiritual growth and prosperity. He has provided us with all the tools, resources and wisdom and the Holy Ghost to teach us all things and to guide us daily. Quite often, we choose deliberately to do things or live a life that will lead to personal spiritual decline and poverty. What are some of the things, choices, actions and lifestyle that are likely to hinder you from growing and prospering?
Being unequally yoked with unbelievers
Bewitching oneself like the Galatians did by starting in the spirit and ending in the flesh (Galatians 3:1-3)
Disobedience to God’s will (Word, ways, instructions, law)
Setting your affection on things (below) and being more devoted to improving personal ‘outlook’ than ‘up look’. (Colossian 3: 2)
Negligence and carelessness
Rebellion
Pride
Ignorance
What are some the likely consequences of our actions and behaviors contrary to God’s ways and will?
Spiritual and physical weakness
Worldliness
Spiritual retardation and death
Backsliding
Poverty and sickness
Negative emotions e.g. anxiety, depression, fear, hopelessness, faithlessness, distrust, pain, confusion etc.
What can you do to avoid or overcome the negative and destructive consequences?
Change!
Secondly, avoid any situations or making any decisions and choices that inevitably will lead you and lock you into spiritual poverty and which may eventually kill you.
We can never change anyone or anything without first changing ourselves. Personal change is a personal responsibility. You either do it or you don’t. Even God can only change one who is willing to be changed-for good.
There are conditions and requirements for spiritual and personal growth. If you truly and honestly want to grow and prosper, you need to take quick and decisive actions. Do the following:
Repent of any known sins including carelessness, laziness and negligence
Delight yourself in the Lord (Psalms 37:4)
Humble yourselves and pray and God will lift you up in due season
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you (Mathew 6:33)
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, body and soul
Divorce evil
Replace bad habits with good habit
Be consistent. Seek help and wise counsel when necessary
Don’t be in a hurry for anything. Wait patiently upon God.
Work hard and enjoy NOW what God has given you.

“The rest of the best are still in the nest.” God bless you.
