A Husband Enjoying His Wife’s Body, by Pastor Phil

Good morning,

How beautiful your sandaled feet, O prince’s daughter!  Your graceful legs are like jewels, the work of a craftsman’s hands.  Your navel is a rounded goblet that never lacks blended wine.  Your waist is a mound of wheat encircled by lilies.  Your breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle.  Your neck is like an ivory tower.  Your eyes are the pools of Heshbon by the gate of Bath Rabbim.  Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon looking toward Damascus.  Your head crowns you like Mount Carmel.  Your hair is like royal tapestry; the king is held captive by its tresses.   How beautiful you are and how pleasing, O love, with your delights!  Your stature is like that of the palm, and your breasts like clusters of fruit.   I said, “I will climb the palm tree; I will take hold of its fruit.” May your breasts be like the clusters of the vine, the fragrance of your breath like apples, and your mouth like the best wine.”  (Song of Solomon 7:1 – 9)

Songs of Solomon or Song of Songs is perhaps one of the most controversial books in Scripture because of its erotic language use.  One camp feels that the book describes ones relationship with the Lord, while the other sees Solomon is sharing his passionate feelings toward his wife, his lover. My personal perspective is that of the later one that this describes passionate, romantic, and erotic love shared between husband and wife.

1.  Start at the Bottom.  Solomon praised his wife starting with her sandaled feet, and then moved to her legs.  Wives enjoy when their husbands notice the little things about them even their feet and legs.  Husbands remember that God brought those feet and legs at one time to you, and you are to keep those feet and legs with you in ONENESS with you.  Praise your wife (not in an idolatrous way) for these features.

2.      Continue in the Middle.  Solomon praised his wife’s navel, waist and breasts.  Many men are drawn away by the mid features of other women, but God desires that our wives be the only source of satisfaction.  Solomon writes is Proverbs 5:19 – 20, “A loving doe, a graceful deer— may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love. Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another man’s wife?  Why not compliment your wife for her mid features today.

3.      Don’t forget the top.  Solomon praised his lover for her neck, hair, eyes, mouth, nose and breath.  When you look at your wife what do you see.  Are you captivated by her beauty?  Are you drawn away by her unique features above her shoulders? Most men are drawn only to those features that are from the waist to the shoulders.  Even Solomon mentioned his wife’s breasts three times.  It seems like he had a thing going on!  However, he shared his intimate words with his wife.

How beautiful you are and how pleasing, O love, with your delights. “…your breasts like clusters of fruit.   I said, “I will climb the palm tree; I will take hold of its fruit.  He described his wife to her from the bottom to top.  He was drawn away, captivated, enamored by her beauty that was for his pleasure and to her delight.  What wife would not like to be complimented by her husband?  Husbands let’s make sure that we are the ones complimenting our wives, because we don’t want someone else to do it for us.  Our wives need to have our voices in their ears praising their beauty and, not another voice.  Have you complimented your wife lately?  Enjoy your wife and let her enjoy you as well.  And perhaps both you and your wife have features that have aged a little.  Remember DON’T TRY and pick another rose just because your petals don’t look like they used to.  Your wife is the rose that God picked for you, so water, shine, and nurture her with your words.  Do you date your wife?  Why not take her out date, like when you first met.  Blessings Pastor Phil

The translation that I believe makes sense with experience and observations about sexuality are:
v1) how beautiful you are, naked, and wearing great shoes. Your hips are like the work of a master craftsman
v2) Your vagina is as intoxicating as a goblet filled with wine. Between your thighs, your pubic hair lies like a mound of wheat bordered with lilies

Based on current translations, commentaries and knowledge about sexuality, I believe Song of Solomon should be translated as:

I just love it, princess, seeing you naked with open shoes on your feet. And the way the curves of your thighs meet up with your hips – it’s like the work of a skilled craftsman. Your vagina has the shape of a pink goblet – and it’s always filled with the finest wine. And between your thighs, just over the clitoris, your patch of pubic hair is just like a little bushel of wheat, jutting out in the middle of the field.
